Last Rites

£1.73

This is one of the longest stories from Strange Tales in Fiction and Fact, a powerful vampire story set against the background of a remote monastery where fear lurks in the underground corridors before emerging to confront the whole community.

Description

When the Abbot of a remote monastery is prompted to search old manuscripts locked away in a vault, he discovers the distressing story of a monk from an earlier time that throws a significant light on work being carried out to expand the monastic premises. It is only when the story of the monk is fully revealed that he realises they face a crucial battle between darkness and light.

Reader comments:

Last Rites developed into a real page-turner, much as the Abbot’s curiosity about Brother Mark became a page-turner for him. The ending was unexpected, climactic and therefore most satisfying. Even before the end I thought this could be developed into a great screenplay.

I found Last Rites quite disturbing but compelling – holding my breath as events unfolded.
